I just wanted to ask for prayers and thoughts for my dog. He's 16 and has been having issues with eating and arthritis but tonight my mom had taken him to Georgia with her to visit my grandparents and it seems like he's taken a turn for the worst. I'm an only child and he is the only brother I've grown up with. Thank you.

I'm so sorry to hear about your dog:( we are all here for you and I pray for you and your dog. It's so difficult because our pets are part of our family...a sibling, a companion, a good friend, and it's painful when they are ill. Please keep us posted. What kind of a dog and what's his name?

Thank you all. He was a spaniel mix and his name was sammy. Unfortunately we had to put him down tonight. It's gonna be a tough week :(

Tried to upload thus pic earlier but it wouldn't let me. This was from 6 or 7 years ago. On one hand I'm so glad that his struggle is over. He has been having so many health issues that we could just never seem to get to the bottom of (is is cancer, kidneys? Just old? Organ issues, etc). He had a nice long life and was happy while he was with us. However, my heart hurts for the family member I've lost and that I grew up with. From childhood, to my tumultuous teenage years and into adult hood. :) he was the best dog anybody could ask for.

Oh, I am so, so sorry. It sounds like your family did the best thing for the poor thing and let him go and be pain free. I know it's hard, it's so hard, just remember, the good times, lots I can safely assume, with 16 years of him in your life. Also, do what you need to do, to get through this. I know some people don't understand the loss of a pet. Most, if not all of us here do. Your friend and beloved family member may be gone, but he will forever be in your heart and memory.
He was a beautiful dog btw.

Oh I'm so sorry that Sammy has passed and that you are grieving now. My thoughts and prayers are with you. What a wonderful picture...it looks like you guys shared many memorable moments and you gave him a wonderful life. I'm sure you brought as much joy to him, as he did to you.

I am so very sorry!!! My little 14 1/2 year old yorkie was just diagnosed with congestive heart failure. I can't believe how difficult this has been. I have been a mess, she is the only thing I have had longer than my husband. And my heart especially goes out to you, I have a soft spot for spaniels. Besides my yorkie, I have three springer spaniels.

Thank you. It has been difficult to watch him decline as well. We have been remembering all the happy times and knowing that we kept him as comfortable as possible in his old age.

Thank you all. So happy to have a second family of animal lovers. :)

Gosh, that's too bad. I've always had dogs, cats, etc. and I'm 75 years old. So I've been though what you're going through, and I can totally appreciate what you're feeling. I love the picture, and thank goodness you have that (and probably more) to remember him by, and not remember the sad end time. He was a beauty.

So sory for your loss. Sixteen is a very long life. Longer than average. He was apparently very much loved and well cared for. And beautiful!
I have a 15 year old poodle who is terribly frail, and one who will be 15 in early May. She is starting to slow down. The winter is tuff on old dogs. At this age, we take each day as a gift.

So sorry your going through this pain. Seems a bit unfair that our beloved dogs have such a short life span even at the best. Looks like Sammy was a sweet dog and sounds like you gave a well loved life to Sammy. I have a couple of old dogs and I know the day is not far off, when I will be in your sad shoes once again. :(

So sorry! It's so hard to lose a furry friend. We lost our 14 yr old chi to prostate cancer a few months ago. It was a terrible time.

Again, thank you all. I haven't lost a pet (other than fish) since I was in th e 2nd grade, so it definitely wasn't completely unexpected. It just seems that no matter how you try to prepare yourself it still hurts all the same. Just a blast from the past... This had to be somewhere between 15 and 16 years ago. :)

Such a beautiful dog, wonderful companion, and a friend.
Certainly touched lives when alive & their memory should continue to live on even in passing.
Losing a pet & a friend is always a painful process. I too had a young dog I had since the age of 7 whom ran away, never to be seen again when I was 14.
Was definitely not an easy situation to go through, but in time, wounds can be healed & memories are left to live on forever.
My condolences in the passing of your lovely dog. May the memories you have now with your new little friends & Thor continue to fill your life with joy :D
