Back in my old place my tortoise would walk free-range in my house. He preferred to sleep in the bathroom because the floors were heated, but it wasn't unusual to find him fast asleep in our closet.

One night, my man and I decide to cook up a late supper, share a bottle of wine, etc. Well, we must have been pretty noisy. I look over when I hear the "click, click, click" of tortoise claws on hardwood floor.

There in the doorway of my bathroom is the GRUMPIEST tortoise I have ever seen! He looks like he is chastising us for being loud and waking him up. The man and I begin laughing, asking him if we woke him up, etc.

He blinks. Slowly, he turns around, and walks back into the bathroom to go back to sleep. If that isn't evidence of tortoise personality, I don't know what is!

That's cute. I can imagine that grumpy look. My leopard has a grumpy look. He cracks me up. He is a very nosey guy. One of the funniest things he did, well funny too my, but not the hubby. My hubby was cutting the grass in the tort area. He started on the opposite side from where my leopard (Tatum) was. Well, the mower starts up and my hubby gets the first pass done, but each pass after that, he had to wait for Tatum to get out of the way, he was checking out everything he was doing. He always investigates everything we are doing in his enclosure and usually gets in the way. But he is so darn cute, we wait until he has had his snoop and moves on before we continue.

Aww I love a wee tortoise story.

Ziggy went through a phase of sticking his head in the corner with his butt sticking up. He'd sit like that for hours. Luckily he grew out of it and we get to see his lovely wee face rather than his butt :) ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1405379744.727439.jpgImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1405379770.262070.jpgImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1405379844.742452.jpg

I was hand feeding my tort when he bit me, I naturally was surprised and pulled my hand back quickly and made some food fall on the floor, the tortoise was also surprised and went back to his shell, lesson learned: don't mess with your tort (no matter how small he is)! :)

Aww, I know! My tort gives me a grumpy face when I bring him inside at night... if he wants more food... while I soak him... if he's walking around in the house... Hmm, pretty much all the time, then. :D It's really cute though, and give him even more personality.

I only just recently got a baby Russian tortoise so I don't have much in the way of stories yet, but a few days ago I was giving Copernicus a soak and after he was done I was carrying him back to his enclosure and he was being kind of fidgety and obviously wanted to be put down. Well as I walk back to his enclosure I was going past a glass door and as soon as he sees it he suddenly goes still and sticks his head up high to look outside. So I stop and hold him up to the glass and he slowly walks across my palm to the edge of my hand and just keeps staring out at the world. I think I may have picked a fitting name for him, it looks like he has a fascination for the world.

My stories aren't nearly as funny, but if theres anything I've learned in my 2 years with Franklin, its Russians have a lot of personality, and that his being WC has no effect on his interaction to me.

His house sits on the top "loft" built on my desk (originally built for bunches of textbooks). One of the first times I was going homework after getting him, he was running around, heard me at my desk and came running over and just stared out the glass front at me! I could not stop laughing it was so funny! He still does that every time I sit at my desk and its still quite funny.

One time I was watching a movie with him on my chest and he noticed my bright pink nail polish and spent a good chunk of time sniffing it and half nibbling at my finger, not like break skin nibble, so it was like he was trying not to hurt me.

We were watching ice age once and I just see him, on my belly, head stretched out all the way intently watching the movie! And another time we were watching a scary movie and I was hiding behind his shell (lol) and his head was sucked in all the way but legs and all still stretched out, eyes open watching the movie. (we don't really watch movies that often I swear lol that's just where all the good stories seem to come from.

Recently, his much was getting the bugs, people say they don't bother our torts but they do bother franklin! I came home one day and he was under his water dish, this is funny since I had a stand for his water to prevent this, a cutting board buried under the substrate blocking him from burrowing, and he just plowed everything out of the way and then popped his head out seeming quite proud of the "designing" he did.

Lastly, my dad was tortoise sitting while I went on a weekend trip. He went to go feed franklin one morning and he couldn't find him, franklin completely buried himself and my dad puzzled for a while about how he could have escaped before he finally found him.

I just thought of another really good one way back to soon after I got Franklin. I had him on my chest watching a movie and he crawled up to my shoulder to burrow behind my neck which wasn't new, but this time instead of burrowing he discovered something new... my ear, and he stuck his whole face IN my ear! Let me just tell you how strange that felt! I guess it was interesting to him. I think I have an old picture of that too!! I should see if I can dig it up, because its just too funny!

Oh my goodness I am practically dying of laughter! I just imagined an extremely grumpy Sully! "Um excuse me, some of us are trying to sleep here.....Are you done now??!!"
