Spar urethane

Can I use spar urethane for my plywood enclosure? And if yes can I paint it after the fact?

hmm i dont think you can paint it after, it worked great for me, i used Minwax Helmsman but just went w/ a satin finish over my plywood tort table. just make sure you give it at least 48hrs after the last coat, so it can fully cure

I don't think you can paint it after either. However, you should be able to paint it before, then put the clear finish over the paint. But yes, let the orders dissipate before putting animals in and do it in a well ventilated area away from animals.

I bought the spray spar urethane. Is this difficult to apply correctly? Is there a specific way to apply the urethane or do I just spray all over?

You cannot paint after the fact, and would essentially render your clear coat useless if you painted after. Paint first, then spray your clear over it, it's just like spray paint. The first coat might come out slightly rough, but you can sand it with 400 grit sandpaper to get the roughness out.

i mainly did the bottom and only came up on the sides like 4-5". its all covered w/ coconut coir now.

total dimensions are 3'x5' sides are 14"tall, the blue stuff is the protective film on the plexi glass

You can also stain your wood, then use the clear spar urethane for extra protection (if you are doing the outside).
I use the water based spar urethane. It is great stuff, makes the wood very tough.
I have used the spray and brush on versions, both are nice, a couple of light coats is better than one thick one. Does take a few days for the odor to dissipate.
