hello friends,

I am wondering if a shop vac will work for cleaning out the dirt, coco coir, small pebbles, and moss from my indoor vivariums?..It such a pain to scoop it out...what do you think?

I have always used a normal hoover to get the last bits but not all (the fine grit can clog the filter so watch)

oh and make sure every thing is dry, they don't like wet do hoovers...

Shop vacs are for wet and dry......and have been known to pick up bolts, screws, etc..

well if its a proper wet dry one I don't see a problem, have never used a wet/dry one before though...

yeah that sounds about right, though i do grab the food that has fallen out of the pan and into the dirt daily or when ever i see it, i worry about gnats finding old food irresistable :)

I would make sure that it is one that will be okay with wet and dry items.

Home depot makes a "bucket head" vac that attaches to a 5 gallon bucket, it costs $15 and is really nice for the price. It gets a little clogged but you just have to go slower than a normal shop vac

My wife actually asks for vacuums, floor mops and cooking appliances...

I picked a good one!

I had one, and fried it sucking up ants in the tortoise pen. I think they crawled on wires and short-circuited it. Worked great for cleaning herp pen messes up until then, though.
