Forgive me, but I am still learning the beahaviors of stars. Are they normally very active?

The reason I ask is my 5" male is just cracking me up. His enclosure is 2'x4' and he does nothing but run around. Sure he walks sometimes, but most of the time he is literaly running. Is he looking for something? LOL

Is this normal?

I think he must be related to my male. He is also hyperactive. He is always on the move. When outside the girl eats and hides in shade and he cruises around all day.

Maybe it's a male thing. :p My goodness though he never stops. Just like tonight, I turned the lights off at 8:00pm and he just now decided to settle down and it is 9:30pm. I have never seen anything like it. LOL

Glad to see I am not the only with with a cazy tort. UGH! He does keep in shape though. :D

While I've got you Larry, what is the lowest temp. you would take your stars outside in? I doubt I will be able to get them outside now that it is fall, but one never knows when a real nice day will pop up.

Thanks,

ARKelly

The minimum I'm comfortable with is 70 on a sunny dry day. They'd probably be ok to the mid 60s if dry. I feel cool and wet is asking for trouble.

Aw! If I new 70 was okay he could have been outside earlier this week. I just assumed 80 was the lowest.

I have half a mind to place him on a treadmil. LMAO! He was up and about this morning before the lights were even turned on. I have never seen anything like it.

I guess I still have the redfoot mentality. Eat and sleep. Ha!

I'm afraid to see what happens when I intorduce him to his girl.

Many Indian Stars behave hyperactively when introduced to new environment. Not sure why but I noticed this more than any other species. But after a while they should setlled down a bit although I'd still think they're more hyper than other species in general.

That is so strange. I won't complain though. I like to see them so full of energy. I'm just waiting for the female to follow suit. LOL

I found out the same thing too about hyper indian stars in their new environment. Sometimes a 5" up female will run and climb up others, act like a male, as if going to mate. A friend here told me it's called alpha female. Perhaps this act is common for all torts?

I had one male Indian star that was also super active. We called him the "Trooper" none of my Burmese or SriLankans have ever shown this behavior. Interesting to see that other people have seen this also???? Best to all Douglas Beard / Flora & Fauna

Of all many different species of tortosies that I've ever had (sulcata, leopard, iberas, russians, forstennis, indian stars, sri lankan stars, etc.), only indian stars ever showed me hyperactive behavior, running around like crazy in their new enclosure. So I won't say it's common for all torts but just specifically indian stars.
