I was given a couple female YF's by a fellow club member who's husband wanted her to thin down the tortoise group a bit. One of them died, but I still have the other. She laid several eggs in her shelter on the pig blanket in '04, three of which hatched.

No Name YF - full grown
Female - 16lbs

Baby #3 and #2 - 6-25-04
Female? - 1.6 & 1.4lbs

Baby #1 - 6-25-04
Female? - 3lbs

I didn't do a very good job raising these babies. It was my first attempt at keeping/raising South American tortoises and was a learning experience for me. Hopefully I'm doing a better job now.

This male was given to me in trade for some gulf coast box turtles. He had a pretty hard life before me. I don't know what happened to him, but he's stunted and his shell is very rough-feeling.

No Name - full grown
male - 11lbs

This young tortoise was given to me as a male with 3 cherry heads and two redfoots. The owner was pregnant and didn't feel it was a good idea to have reptiles around an infant. This is the tortoise who had eaten rocks and became impacted earlier this year, and whose eggs are incubating...3 from June and 8 from August.

No Name - young
female - 8.75lbs

I wanted to have pictures of the under-side of male/female for comparison, but these pictures aren't all that good.

The male:

The younger female:

And the older female:

With some species of tortoise, you can distinguish male from female by the anal and femoral scute seam. In redfoots the seam is indented on males and straight on females. The seam seems to be indented on both sexes in these pictures. The only difference I see is that the seam is wavy in the female and more or less straight in the male.

Of course!! I have 2 manouria eggs that are long past their disposal time, 28 questionable leopard eggs, 11 yellowfoot eggs, (sh-h-h-h...these are told on the Q.T. - 1 egg from Abscess nose and 1 Texas egg).

Nix the last question... should've read your profile!

Can you post some pictures of hatching yellowfoots whenever they come out?

Yvonne, they are just absolutely beautiful. I love the Yellowfoots and Redfoots and most certainly my Cherries. I would love someday to be able to find a Yellowfoot or two. Thanks for sharing your awesome pictures. Loved the ones of the Texas Torts as well.
