Well, I guess it's about time that I share my furry animals with you guys. I'm always posting pictures of the scaly kind. :) Here they are.

Panda. She (according the the first owner) is supposed to be a long haired whippet. She is about 3.5 months old and cute as can be.

Spring. She was rescued off of the highway where she was sitting with her mother who was killed. Spring is 5 months old now and loves to swim.

Abby. Abby was a rescue along with her brother "Shiner." They were both found in a field at 10 weeks old. Abby is 4.5 years old now and thought to be a greyhound/dane mix. Her brother Shiner passed away from osteosarcoma back in December of 2010.

Great dogs Matt. I can totally see the Great Dane/Greyhound. The pics really show some personality too. Never heard of a long haired whippet. She's cute though.

I know the post is about dogs, but I really like the sulcata too.

What a sweet bunch Matt. So sad how Spring was found but a very good ending for her. I've never heard of a long haired Whipet either but very much agree on her cuteness. Just adoreable! All of them are!
My sincere condolences on the loss of Shiner recently. It so hard to lose them. I get the name ... lol. The second picture made it clear - :) clever. I can tell he is missed.

I love your dogs! Those back haunches on Abby look SO strong! I'll bet she runs like the wind!

I'm holding out for a Doberman pup. Hard to find nowadays. I guess they're out of style.

Your pups are adorable, Matt. You've certainly got a black and white thing going on there, don't you? My Aussie, Ponette, says that black and white is always fashionable!

No such thing as a long haired whippet. Seriously. There is a big controversy over them or at least there was a few years back. Walter Wheeling or Wheeler was a whippet breeder in the 80's and from what I can gather was pretty much respected in the whippet community. Walter also bred and showed Shelties (Shetland Sheepdogs). One day his champion whippet had a litter of long-haired whippets and he tried to pass them off as such and said that the long hair was a recessive gene. There are a group of people that still try and pass off that myth. It was proven that Walter Wheeler was lying because the long haired whippets carry a gene (similar to 'collie eye') that is only found in herding breeds. Long haired whippets are genetically whippet/sheltie crosses back in Walter Wheeler days, they may have other breeds in them now.

There is another group of people that are trying to establish a 'new' breed and they are similar to a mini-borzoi and I believe they are called Silkenhunds or Wyndhunds. They are trying to get them recognized by a kennel club. They are similar to the long haired whippet and they actually have a 'long haired whippet' in them.

TMI, lol

In any case all your dogs are cute :)

Thanks guys! They definitely keep me busy! I've never heard of a long haired whippet either. I didn't get her for that reason, we had recently lost Shiner and she reminded me of him. She does look more like a Sheltie than a whippet. I don't really care though, she's a great dog.
