is it a bad thing that I've never cleaned my Tortoise? I was told that he was hatched in October and I bought him at the end of January but never bothered to wipe him down other then him getting wet in his daily soak...

I know that obviously they don't get washed in the wild but I've heard of owners giving them a little scrub once in a while.

I have never scrubbed Bob or Shelby. I soak them and mist them. But no scubbing.

Good question, I would also like to know the answer! I spray and soak but I don't know what a scrub would entail.

I wouldn't scrub, but you can use a soft bristle tooth brush on them! Older torties for sure!

I have never washed my hatchlings, just soaked them and mist them. I have had to give Daisy Lou a good washing a few times, once we had a major poop explosion and another time she was tromping around in the mud!

i will scrub all of mine once in a while, especially before pictures! they seem to like it for the most part, i use a soft small toothbrush on the smaller ones and a larger dish washing brush on the shell of the larger ones, they like to have their legs washed, they even will let me gently wash their face and neck once in a while, the dirt gets caked on so i think it feel good to get it off...

we wash ours off every time we soak them. I take a paper towel and gently clean their shells off and wipe their feet. Mine are still hatchlings though. They don't seem to mind. Deanna

I wash mine with a soft tooth brush once in a while, if stubborn things get on them and won't come off.

I think I'll have to get a soft toothbrush for Nelson- thanks for the suggestion everyone!
Now that he's getting bigger and his legs are "bulkier" they seem to get dirtier in the little crevices.

Mine both get a little scrub when they have there soaking, i use a basic scrub brush for dishes on my big guy and use a soft tooth brush on my little guy and some hard to reach areas on the big one. They seem to enjoy it.
