MVB bulbs and pyramiding

@Tom (or anyone) - I've seen many of your posts discussing MVB's causing pyramiding. What exactly is it about these bulbs that causes desiccation? TIA

They burn extremely hot and put a a larger amount of near-IR because of the heat. That is very desiccating on the tortoise carapace and contributes to pyramiding. Because of the heat they also will overheat any decent closed chamber type of enclosure. IF you have a good enclosure to hold humidity, it will be impossible to use a MVB and not overheat the enclosure. IF you vent to reduce the heat build-up, you will loose all the humidity. So a double whammy for contributing to pyramiding.
