My one year old tort (eastern hermanns) has been whistling and making a loud squeaking noise. His temps and enclosure are right ( thanks to the confirmation and good advice from this site)….

I would imagine torts make some vocal noises? His nose is not runny and he is active as usual, he eats runs around and has been normal. I did recently move and put his enclosure in the car and he started squeaking super loud, do they do this from stress or should I worry about illness?

I don't know the answer to your question, but I would start by treating it like an RI.

Raise his temps a bit...make the minimum temp in his enclosure 85° if he's been being kept at 80°. Keep him at this temp until at least 2 weeks after all symptoms are gone. Be sure to soak him daily, and don't let the water cool off.

If he does have an RI, often just raising temps will be enough to help them fight it off. But of course, if he gets very ill, he needs to go to the vet. No Baytril injections! Insist on Fortaz.

I'm curious to see what other members think. Maybe someone else's tort has verbalized his displeasure at something! ?

I’ve posted a recent thread about my tort whistling but didn’t get too much feedback I’m hoping for more chatter in this thread. My one year old eastern hermanns started to do this whistling noise about three weeks ago. Naturally I think the worst of his health and am so worried about him. His enclosure is correct I’ve been told on here so I hope. The temp on one side is 74 the basking spot directly underneath is always 90-100, it’s been a little hotter in PA (97 degrees ) so I highered the light .

I give him fresh water all day because he makes such a mess of it and feed him the correct diet according to the sheets on here.

His temps drop to about 70 at night and any cooler I turn the CHE on, I soak him 4x week.

I am worried about him and the whistling but his behavior hasn’t changed much and he is still eating. Please help me . I have a video and if you turn it all the way up you can hear the whistling But I cant get it to upload to here ?

He may just have a bit of debris stuck in a nostril. You can buy a squirt bottle of sterile saline in the contact lens department of your pharmacy and squirt firmly up each nostril to try to clear it out. Don't worry about it going into his lungs because the other end of the nostrils is in the roof of his mouth.

I just tried to get it up there and it didn’t work. Every time I went to squirt it rex put his head in and I dont want to try and hold it‘s head and hurt . He/she is only three inches super small.

Any tips for me to get the saline in there?
