Hi all,

Everywhere I read about the maturity of red foot and the age when they start laying eggs, but is there a max age for the females for laying eggs? I have got a breeding group 1:3 of big heavy red foot tortoises that are estimated to be 35 years old and I want to be prepared.

Cheers,
Carlos

If there is, no one knows it. 35 year olds should have no problem.

I have one year old babies from two parents that are around 100 years old right now. And more are hatching this year too. Different species, but same principal.

100 years! Wow!! I read they live an average of 50 years old. Yours must be one of a long-lived ones! ❤️

No one knows how long tortoises live. We haven't been captive breeding them long enough, and when we started captive breeding them, most people weren't starting the babies correctly early on. Most people still aren't.

Anyone that tells you an age limit for any tortoise species is either guessing, or repeating someone else's guess.
