No wood. They are everywhere. I have a glass enclosure with the dirt they sell at the reptile store where we got her. They escape when we open the door and find them all over the house. They look very similar to fruit flies
If she isn’t acting differently or seeming agitated I would say there fruit flys just make sure all old food is clean.

Yes she tried eating them was all. Doesn't seem affected. We get them just a few days after totally clearing out her terrain.

California and we use "Natural reptile bedding" made with sphagnum peat moss, sand and natural clay
Do you have to expand the substrate or does it come and you just put it in? If it’s very humid in her enclosure that’s were the attractions lies!

It could be fungus gnats, they look quite similar to fruit flies, except they are black instead of red/brownish. They like moist and humid substrate. I think (but absolutely not sure!) they won't harm your tort, however, they do harm plants. As they eat the roots of plants, and they are extremely difficult to get rid off.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! no SAND, the impaction risk is real and dangerous. No sand, I don't use moss as I don't think they should eat it. Just get cypress mulch, or 'fine' grade orchid bark. Natural reptile bedding is crap and made to make money, not be a good substrate for reptiles
