Hi there.

Better to seek a reputable breeder than to go with a pet store. Most pet store torts are wild caught, and that opens the door for parasites, pathogens, or mistreatment and stress, not to say anything about the ethical side. Pet stores also give wrong info and sell the wrong products.

Shipping reptiles is safe easy and reliable granting it's done right, so you dont necessarily need one in your area.

Torts should never be kept in pairs, and are quite happy to be solitary.

The best thing you can do is read up on all the info provided on the forum, and ask specific questions. Everyone has been very helpful to me here and I'm sure you would find the same.

Best of luck!

Do not use black water.
We have a couple breeders on here and they will be your best place to purchase from.
If you want an older one you could try rescuing one from craigslist

The list is pretty current. You're looking for a Russian and all the breeders on our list still raise and sell them. You have to wait until the eggs hatch, it's not a year round, always available type of product.

I got my tortoise from Tortoise Supply. They are forum members and are also sponsors of this forum. My tortoise was beautiful and healthy. They are a family business and do a great job. They sell Russian tortoises as well as others.
Good luck! :)

I've done business with both @Carol S and @kanalomele . Both get an A+++. I would add more plus symbols, but you get the idea. Both of them start their babies in a way that is optimal for good health. Their babies don't just survive, they thrive.
