Las Vegas here. I have a terrible time trying to create humidity. In the summer its ok because I can wet the substrate in Koopas shed as the ambient temp in there ranges from 90-110 & she has a large water to sit in. In the winter my oil heater only getS the shed up to 70 at 9, so I built a smaller box in the shed witj the kane heat mat. My oil heater just gave out (it was 15 years old). The new one I got was inefficient in at raising the temp at all! Don’t know what to do about the humidity accept lock her in on warm days and wet everything down. Now without my oil heater, the ambient is only 60-62 in the shed... still looking for replacement. And currently trying to get a radiant heat panel to put inside the box View attachment 282868View attachment 282867
Do you have a Kane heating pad? What temp do you keep it at? I think my oil heater might have gone out, but I really can’t tell and it’s hard to replace since the design of his shed is so awkward. It was our first one! When we move in a few years he’ll get a new one

Yes, Kane heat pad. The floor of the shed is 61 F degrees on a rubber mat. Heat pad goes on that, I have the External Rheostat set with the arrow slightly under/or on low. When the ambient is 60 F, the mat ranges from 78-92 per the temp gun. The mat is long so she can situate herself and move to warmer or cooler side. Her shed heats up to around 78-80 on its own still during the day. I leave it on through the day as well.

Little update on koopas shed. We put in a plywood ceiling. This will reduce the space of the room and keep from losing all the heat to the top area of the shed. Already holding a better temp. Still looking for a better oil filter. But since we have reduced the cubic space of the room, should be easier to heat and therefore hoping these new fancy oil heaters will work. Already returned one.. but that was with all the damn ceiling space.0AC085F1-60F3-4501-ABD4-F8BEC917481A.jpeg

Well, silly. . . you needed to insulate the ceiling too!

That's a very nice shed. He should be pretty happy in there this winter.

I don't worry about humidity for my big sulcata. I think that's mainly for the smaller ones. In the wild the big sulcatas poop and pee in their burrows and that makes their resting spot more humid, but when they're out and about, there's minimal humidity for them. Don't be too quick to clean up the poop. I only clean out Dudley's shed once a week.
