i've been viewing different posts and threads where one or the other owners living in india are seeking an advise from star owners in INDIA...
and the prime reason for that is most of the advise, help articles, terminology(except for the general ones) don't apply here in india.... it seems to be the irony that the star is native to India and India lacks the most crucial needs, accessories, necessities etc. So i thought instead of posting things in scrambled ways in different threads why not create a new thread that would be centred to help and solve issues of people like us living in india......

so i'm calling on all star owners living in india to give a little bit of intro about you and your tort( its age, weight, size etc) and where you live ( like state or even better .. city) , pictures of your star, enclosure, what diet you feed them etc........ this info would help us asses each other, solve each other's issues and problems and also teach us new better was of keeping our stars.......

So let's see how many Star owners from INDIA!!! :) :) :) :)

I'm Shanu and i live in Jaipur Rajasthan, INDIA :D

i have a 10 year old MALE Indian star tortoise natively belonging to Kutch Gujarat....... i rescued him from a friend of my friend.... and he was previously wild caught and that explains his pyramiding.....but he's still very handsome :)

Here is Max:

welcome to the forum
u have beautiful tortoises over there and they are young
soak them in water for 10 mins every two or three days
it needs moisture and if u soak them daily, it helps the shell too

give them sorakaya and bendakaya,beans,beerakaya,aloevera..

Guys is there someone from North india who wants to adopt a star tortoise. Because of some reasons I am not able to take care of my star. If someone is ready please let me know. You need not pay anything for this. But if you need the ceramic heater and uv bulb then I shall ask some money to compensate the amount I have spent. I have been using ceramic heater for last 2 months. And never used MVB yet. Its still as it was when delivered by amazon.

If someone interested please let me know.

U still have ceramic heater and MVB ?

About my torts :

I care for a male around 15 years - Gypsy and a female around 10 years - Snowy

They have been with me for around 7 years now.

Aug-17 we got our first clutch of eggs, i bought an incubator too but no success.

Sep-18 we got our new clutch. This tie I built my own incubation box. I have got two healthy hatchlings and waiting for more.

Only issue right now is that they are just 2 days old and not eating any common star tort food but eating only paper towels used as lining to their house . Any help is appreciated.

i know of a friend owning two stars, one 6 inches and the other 4 inches. Both the same age about 2 years. the smaller one doesnt eat much while the larger one eats all available food at least two to three times a day. The larger one also has liquid oozing out of its nose and sneezing sometimes. Both get bath soak once daily for one hour in the morning. Larger one loves Ocra while the smaller one loves tendli. They both eat sprout lentils (moong) and sometimes corn. Dont know why one is growing very slowly while the other is growing fast. They dont eat hibiscus though and also dont eat dhania!!! I dont know why. All information and advice is welcome since I visit them at least once a week and give them haldi and other natural antibiotics sometimes when i feel they need some help with their cold. My friend also has four turtles who are growing big and strong though only 6 months old. They are over 8 inches each. Mostly kept in water, just a few hours on land. eating taiyyo and other turtle food apart form hibiscus and dhania etc. He has kept sucker fish in their tanks to clean the tanks which is working well for him. Changes water every two days. Looking forward to more information on their care.

Hi All! My friend has two stars and four turtles. Stars are two years old and trutles are 06 months old. However, the trutles are 8 inches already while the stars one is 6 inches and the other is still 4 inches. Turtlwes eat Taiyyo trutle food, dhania and hibiscus. Bigger star loves Okra and the smaller star eats tendli. Both stars love corn. They eat cucumber, watermelon and moong sprouts sometimes if they are in the mood. they get soak/bath everyday for one hour. The trutles live mostly in water and a few hours they are left on land. Any and all information and adivce is welcome. Bigger star has nasal discharge sometimes. Smaller star eats very little. Turmeric leaves and root, we put in water used for their bath/soak as a natural antibiotic.

My larger tort started humping the smaller one. There's no flashing yet. So I'm guessing the larger one is Male and the smaller one Female.
But all these years, my assumption was that females grew much larger (and faster) than males.

With these repts, its a continuous learning.

Females can and will mount others as well. It's a dominance thing.

They are not big enough yet to know the sex.

There is no way to tell the sex of an Indian Star at that size. Normally a male Indian star will start to develop secondary sexual characteristics at about 400g-500g. The tail will start to thicken and lengthen. The plastron starts developing the concavity.
