Update on the Midas.
They battled each other in my 100 gallon tank. So I had to separate them. Placing one of them into a 55 gallon. But it had to be euthanized.
The tank had a divider. But while I was at work, they broke it down.
The photo above is act with them both on the same side of that tank.
The dominant Male, I rehomed on Craigslist.
They can't be re released into the wild and that guy needed more room. He splashed about like Shamu the killer whale!
So, the whole catching and keeping Midas cichlids was a bad idea.
However, I am currently building two identical 1,100 gallon outdoor ponds and my plan is to give it another try.
They are beautiful.
And they are invasive.
Maybe I can remove a few more and keep them successfully with a better and more realistic plan.

I have salvinis in my big living room tank right now. They are guarding fry as we speak.

I will NOT be releasing them in to any local water ways EVER!

A friend of mine sent me a photo of some fish he's been catching in Pembroke Pines.
He says FLOWERHORN. But they look more like Trimacs. At any rate I'm pretty anxious to go try to catch some of them.

If anyone is living in or will be visiting south Miami. This is the address of the secret Midas hole.
Punch it into your GPS and drive to the south east corner of that parking lot.
That whole canal is full of Midas.
That one particular spot is HOT. But there are also several vagrants that camp out there. So be prepared to move.

Well, in Pembroke Pines Florida there is a Hooters on University drive.
In front of that Hooters is a very unimpressive canal.
It is full of Salvini and Jaguar cichlids.
I may try to catch some more. They'd be great for my new fish pond. If it ever gets built that is.
I had thought that the first Salvini I caught was a Flowerhorn cichlid.
That would be frightening. A hybrid that can reproduce and will try to kill and eat it's own shadow.
Thanks for that! I live 15minutes away and may give this a try.

I didn't see this or notice this until today.
They are supposed to be all over Black Creek and have taken over many other areas.
I have seen exactly 3 here in Broward.
So, they're coming!
