just sex at the beach ? We have had hot and dry summer and so far the fall season hasn't changed that. I've noticed my eastern box turtles more active in breeding than normal this time of year. We haven't had any measurable rain since mid August and had a long dry spell prier to that rain. Only one nest with 4 hatchlings came up so far this year, Hopefully it isn't to late for the others I know are out there to emerge if we ever get enough rain to wet the soil. It's 85 F outside as I write this. Supposed to be cooler with a chance of showers tomorrow morning and then warm back up for the rest of the week. Picture 002 copy.jpg Picture 003 copy.jpg Picture 007 copy.jpg Picture 016 copy.jpg

Mark are your trees dropping leaves like mine ? If we don't get rain in the area soon it's not going to be a very colorful fall season.

Great looking box turtles! It's been a long dry summer in the mid Atlantic for sure. Trees are dropping dry crusty leaves and lawns are gray. I have a half barrel in my backyard that was overflowing with every light shower last year. This year it went bone dry three weeks ago.

Yep, leaves are dropping like flies. News is already saying the drought, coupled with heat and leaves dropping will res7lt in a very dull Fall Foliage display.

I had a 3-Toed lay a clutch about 77 days ago. No hatchlings yet, but I've been keeping the area the eggs are buried wet daily. Is there a point I should dig down and see if they're just not able to get out themselves? Or are they gonna be ok if they did indeed hatch? The only reason I ask this is because I live in an area with clay-heavy soil, so I worry they may not be able to dig out.
