A funny thing happened on my way to the store today.... the maintenance guy for our Clubhouse waved me down and congratulated me on being a grandpa... I looked at him curiously and he said the pool guy found 2 baby torts in the pool area (on the other side of the fence from my yard) Thursday morning. I told him that’s impossible because my broods weren’t due out for at least a few more months but he said they looked a lot like mine so I went to check it out.

The first nest is still sealed, as is the third but the second nest was... well.... there is a hole in the ground.

There were 6-8 eggs in this nest and I know that at least 2 have new homes... the others are unknown and in the wind. Looks like I need to build a wall around the third nest like I have around the 1 to corral hatchlings now that I know there fertile.

I’m sorry, Yes, these are Eros and Gaia’s offspring.... she set 3 nest last November. The 1st one has @ 18 eggs and I have a wall built around it for when they hatch. She laid another nest about 2 weeks later.... that’s the one that hatched and it had 6-8 eggs. And there is a 3rd nest about a foot away from the second that holds also 6-8.

You're lucky to live where you're able to allow the eggs to be left in the ground.

Isn't it fun!! I got my first surprise babies last year, but this year got to watch one of my females digging her nest for the first time. What a long drawn out process, haha.
