Hi fellow tortoise friends I got a question about hibernation I read online that it is important to do for the health of a tortoise
So my sulcata is now almost 1 year old at what month should I start hibernating him ?
And what temperature should be the fridge ?
And how often should I check on him

Thankx in advance!

Hello
It's true SOME Tortoises benefit from hibernating but ur sulcata isn't one of them. If u put ur sulcata in the fridge it will die! They don't hibernate! U need to keep him warm and humid all year around.

Please read this and come back with questions: https://www.tortoiseforum.org/threads/how-to-raise-a-healthy-sulcata-or-leopard-version-2-0.79895/

Just what @xMario said. The sulcata is not a species that hibernates/brumates. If you live where it gets cold outside during the winter, then you will need to provide an area inside or outside that will provide adequate heat to keep the tortoise warm.

I'm a little bit confused the link you posted is completely different from all I have read elsewhere on the internet about sulcata tortoises now how can I know what care guide I should follow?

Why do u think it would die if cold?
In the desert the night temperatures also drop very low

Thank u guys for trying to help but it is very hard to figure out who is right and who is wrong

There are big YouTube channels out there and no one of them is keeping the sulcatas as described in the care guides u provided

So what and who should I believe

Also I read that u think that pyramiding has to do with humidity but every other source talks about food and nutrition
