My slowest growing/smallest Star definitely has more bumpiness than the other two faster growing stars. You would think it would be the other way around since people relate growing them fast to pyramiding. It looks to me like some are just more prone than others to pyramiding. Although, I think the 80 degree minimum and 80% humidity seem to reduce pyramiding greatly. Also, my sample size of three is really small. So, we would get better info from someone who has raised up more platynota.

E151C460-1C49-458E-B5B0-2F7F79F94789.jpeg I always wondered about how obvious sex differences were as tortoises grew. But, you don’t see many comparative shots of different tortoises as they grow. So, I figured I would post up another round of photos and we can see if our sex guesses change over time. They are still young so things can change and they may not be obvious. But, it is still fun to guess.

I'll still play along as I love this process...

However, I am now 1 & 3 female and 2 male.

Thanks for playing again! It is interesting to see you have two guesses change. (Which isn’t really odd as they are still growing and changing.) The two smaller ones definitely seem rounder. But, the anal scutes on 3 still seem to look more male. Also, the anal scutes still seem more female on 2 but it has a more male overall shape. Anyone else want to take a shot?

The much faster growth of #2 and shape say male to me. Males seem to grow faster to 1000g, then females outgrow the males. Also the tail past the cloaca - notice the number of scales/length of #2 vs 1 & 3.

I discovered two things yesterday. First, that my largest Burmese Star (which recently broke 800g) loves squash blossoms. And second, that my largest will eat from my hand if the food is tasty enough.

That’s great. At 800g you should be able to see if it’s a male or female. Post some tail pictures.

I am waiting for the other two to get a few more grams before I post up all three again for another round of sex guessing as they age.

This is the third round of sex guessing for these guys (and hopefully gals). I thought it would be fun to see how they change over time and I am aware that they are still a bit young. But, guessing is still fun.
