soon to be a baby sulcata tortoise mom

Hello everyone my name is Barbara and i will soon be getting my baby Sulcata tortoise ive done tons of research before deciding on what species of tortoise i was interested in getting. i will post pics of him or her when i have my tortoise ive had other species of small tortoises in the past but never had a tortoise that will get a pretty good size thank u all and have a nice day

What kind of tortises have you had previously? Where are you getting your baby from? I'm excited to see pics of him [emoji846]

Congrats! Just be sure to get your baby from a breeder that starts them right. Austin from Arizona sulcata is a great guy and starts his babies off the right way. Also some breeders on this forum who are very good at what they do! Good luck!

i might either get one from underground reptiles or from kemp kenan he is a youtuber that specializes in reptiles and to anser your question ive had sun turtles, box turtles,and snapping turtles giving to me because their previous owners was not able to care for them properly so that is how i got turtles in the past.

YIKES!!! By typing the above, you just dodged TWO huge bullets!

Underground has a dismal reputation. Do a search here on the forum and read about all the deaths and poor service. Kenan is a nice guy and he makes high quality looking videos, but he gives bad advice and isn't someone to learn good tortoise care, or buy a baby from. I'm so glad you found us BEFORE it was too late.

Most of the info found out in the world for this species is wrong. Its based on old incorrect assumptions about how they live in the wild, and its been repeated for decades. Books, vets, breeders and "experts" will all give you the same bad advice and it often leads to the death of the baby weeks or months later. Since the baby was "fine" while the breeder had it, the death is blamed on the new keeper. So sad, and so easy to avoid if you buy from the right source. Please read these threads before you go any further. I promise you will thank me later and so will your tortoise.

thank you very much for letting me know before i made a mistake i did not know that his info was not right i will look in the forum on here for a breeder so i know that i get a healthy baby tortoise.

I have babies right now, but they are already sold.

Austin is a good one. Also check with @Markw84 and @Lancecham for well hydrated well started babies.
