Shell rot?

So I live in Arizona and have my tortoise outside. We have pretty much 0 humidity so my question is do tortoise in Arizona ever get shell rot? I got one tortoise that has a lift on a plat and I'm not sure if its shell rot and I should be worried or if it's just some plats coming off. It's a 10 year old tortoise so a plat or 3 coming off would be crazy, but it looks much different then what I normally see.

What dose everyone think?

Where in Arizona? I'm south, in Tucson, and humidity is very high this time of year due to the monsoon season, even with the little rain we've gotten this year.

I don't see any shell rot in your picture, just looks very dry. Do you soak your tortoises at all or hose them down? I hose all mine down at least twice a day, and make sure they have plenty of deep shade and fresh, clean water.

No, that's just new growth that's very, very dry. It would help if you soak the tortoise daily, then, after he's dry, apply some cold pressed coconut oil with a Q-tip. Don't allow the oil to stay on after a few minutes though because ants are attracted to it.

I have a mud pit for them that they are in most of the day. I dont know why it's so dry. The mud is also good to keep the mosquitoes off them. I also have a pool of water that's 6 inches deep that they go to and drink. I will try what you suggested and see what happens!
