I adopted this tortoise Monday night. I was told it is a Hermann. I believe it’s a Greek. It has two thigh spurs. It has very little color on its plastron. It has five toes on each front foot. It has an undivided supracaudal scute. I’ve seen conflicting information about scales on the head and the occipital spot. It’s seven months old and weighs 30 grams. Could it possibly be a hybrid? I would appreciate any feedback you can give.

Based on the plastron, it's definitely a Testudo graeca - Greek Tortoise. As for the subspecies, I'll recommend having @HermanniChris take a look. It appears to be either an Ibera, or a subspecies mix to me, but Chris is more experienced with Greek Tortoises.

Thank you. I’m not planning on breeding so I’m ok if it’s a mix.

Beautiful animal. I am a little surprised that this one is 7 months. This is not much growth in that time. Make sure you keep your new baby very well hydrated with soaks, and feed lots of healthy weeds, etc.

Good luck! Does this little one have a name?

Just remembered we chatted on my post about the age possibly being incorrect! Either way lots of hydration and yummy weeds for this one

We have a morning routine down. I put her in a soak first thing while I prepare her food and feed the dogs. Our dog is diabetic so she gets measured food and insulin injections. That gives the tortoise enough time to do her business and get hydrated. She goes back in, finishes her warm up and eats breakfast. It’s really kinda funny. She burrows for a little bit and then eats again. Basks for a little bit and then late afternoon, she goes in her hide and burrows in for the night.

She didn’t have UVB at her first home so that may have contributed to her stunted growth. I’ve measured and weighed her in the two weeks I’ve had her, theres been no change. I will say though, I’ve noticed some lightening between the scutes on her shell. I think she’s growing, it’s just slow.

For now she’s getting store bought greens supplemented with wild picked greens. I’m growing my own but they’re not ready yet.

I think I’ll call it Milo. Its one of my old nicknames and could be male or female. Also sounds a little Greek.

That’s good to know. I’m not freaking out yet. I’m new to this but the environment is good and she’s eating and passing so I think she’s good. She’s also getting calcium supplements 2-3 times a week. She also ate some of the plants in her enclosure. I’ll give her a little more time before I panic. Lol
