So it has been said to just take them outside a few times a week. then no UV light is needed. My ? is in the winter when it is cold outside (NorCal) do you do anything to keep them warm ? Bright sunny sky's but cold.
Thanks
Jack

During the winter you won't wnt to take them out. If they get a lot of sun during the singer they should be good for the winter months. How big are torts?

I only bring my outside for uvb if it's above 70f in the winter. They go all winter inside without it but I don't keep Sulcatas mine are Redfoots. They require less uvb than most species. @Tom can probably answer your question best.

I only bring my redfoot outside if it's over 70°, and then only for a few hours but he's just a little guy.

Just use a good UV bulb indoors. Then, if the weather is too cold for weeks on end, everything is covered. If the weather is nice, your tortoise can go outside some of the time.

The newer HO bulbs are the way to go. Mounting height will depend on which type of bulb you get. Best to have a meter to check it.
