Hello, curious what these plants are and if they’re safe for my Hermanns to eat, and how often? Located in Canada, SK 397A223D-8256-4011-A8F7-6016DD8791D3.jpgIMG_5553.jpgIMG_5554.jpgIMG_5555.jpgIMG_5556.jpgIMG_5557.jpg

Picture 1: I don’t know what the fluffly looking plant is but the smaller ones underneath are a dandelion relative: safe.

Picture 2: don’t know.

Picture 3 has more dandelion relative and the lacy one is yarrow: safe.

Picture 4 looks like bittercress to me. If not that a member of the same family: safe.

Pictures 5 and 6: don’t know.

The tortoise table says yarrow isn’t safe?

This is one of those areas where different sources say different things. Plenty of folks feed it without noticing any ill effect.

If you see my avatar on the left, that’s my Russian entering her summer burrow, right next to a chunk of yarrow. We have plenty of yarrow in our yard and she likes to graze it in the summer, but not other times of the year.

Yarrow grows in the regions where our Mediterranean tortoises come from; it’s likely eaten in the home range.

As the owner, you’ll have to decide what feels right to you. If you aren’t comfortable feeding something, that’s okay.

I don't know your weeds, but I can offer this: When I can't ID something, I take a sample to my local nursery. Most of them have a local plant nerd that knows everything about everything plant related. I've had a 100% success rate getting positive IDs this way.

Great idea thank you! I’m surrounded by very small towns unfortunately, hopefully someone can help!
