White spot on Aldabra's head

Hi Everyone,

I have this Aldabra for about 6 months and noticed the white spot in his forehead since I got him.

I'm thinking that it might be dry skin and that will be resolved with a few soak..

I have been soaking him everyday. Sometimes twice a day. However the white spot is still there.

Is that normal? How can the issue be resolved?

Thank you! 20190124_082717.jpeg

I see this a lot in box turtles that are kept indoors in fairly dry conditions and little to no UVB, with improper diet.

Does your aldabra live outside? It might help to wet down the enclosure frequently.

What do you feed him?

You can also apply a tiny drop of cold pressed coconut oil, allow it to sit there for a few minutes, then massage it in.

I must apologize for my late response. This is the first I'm seeing this question.

Looks like dry skin to me. I would try the drop of cold pressed coconut oil like @Yvonne G had proposed. When the tortoise is normal active and good eating I would not worry about the white spot.

Thank you everyone for replying! She is kept outside during the day, and inside at night.. She is fed grasses and greens plus mazuri and zoomed grassland diet.. The white spot is still there, but I do notice that it's not that prominent when it is wet.. I'll post a recent picture in a bit. Thanks!

It almost looks to be a bit of a scar formed there possibly from repeatedly rubbing it against something over a period of time. Seems a bit more than just dry skin.

looks like a rubbing mark maybe from the chicken wire maybe ... they make a vinyl coated type that might be better

Thank you for your responses.. I have always assumed that it is dry skin and with enough soaks, it will go away eventually. I have not considered it to be a scar... If it is a scar, can it heal? Or will it be forever there?

I will try that coconut oil treatment. I have read that before from Shaun Shankman. But have never tried applying it to the tortoise.

I’ll bet that “dry spot” really is the result of your tort putting it’s head in and out of the wire cage over and over and over again. Id put a nice smooth barrier along the inside to prevent this from happening.

Since u have what looks like many torts in similar fencing, do any others have the same issue? Id definitely put up a barrier to prevent heads going in/out the fence line.

Sorry it took a while before I replied. I had the impression that the"scar/ dry spot" was already there before I got her.. Searched for an old photo before she was under my care.. What do you guys think? 20190429_174932.jpeg

Thank you for your advices, I will change the wire fence into something they can't put their heads into it. You asked about the condition of my other tortoises. The thing is this, the other tortoises like to put their head out, but they don't have a scar like the aldabra. I have not observed the Aldabra to poke her head out as much as the other tortoises.. But she was the one who have the scar.. So I'm not sure.. To be sure, I'll just change it.. Thanks for your help!
