Is it a problem if my 5 year old tort isn’t excreting uric acid?
She had a stone a few weeks ago which passed and had antibiotics.
I give her baths every day, always have done and she has urinated but I haven’t seen any uric acid? I read somewhere that this isn’t an issue but due to the previous stone, I’m worried..

Any advice possible please!

They don't pass urates every day. I wouldn't worry about it just yet.

If you are soaking daily, the tortoise will not likely form urates again. You may never see them, and in this case, it is fine if you don't see them ever again.

Uric acid is the waste in liquid form that tortoises produce instead of urine. Urates is a whitish creamy to hard substance formed by higher concentrations of Uric acid that precipitates into a semi-solid or solid as the concetrations of Uric acid builds in the bladder. It will also precipitate out much quicker in lower concentrations if cooler.

A well hydrated tortoise that exchanges its water frequently will keep concentrations low and have less or even no urates have a chance to build up. WHen you bathe a tortoise daily, they normally will soon develop a habit of dumping and replacing their water with the bath.

A diet high in protein will also raise uric acid levels.

Thank you very much everyone for your replies, she’s acting like her usual self, too but I’ll still keep an eye on her. Thank you all again!!
