My name is Corey and my leopard tortoise’s name is Ted. We live in Leona Valley CA (Southern California). We bought Ted from a pet store when he was about 3 weeks old and he was raised in a semi dry environment until I found this forum. He is now about one year old and I have recently dramatically changed his environment since being on this forum. The first picture is of the tortoise table that I had him in for about the first 10 months of his life. The humidity was at 50%-60%. When I realized this was not good and he wasn’t growing, I found @Elohi and pictures of the enclosure that she had setup, so I bought the same garden bed setup from amazon (please see the next few pictures). I also set up a humidifier, two CHE’s, a UVB, and his basking spot. Now, his humidity is usually about 85-90% during the day and his cold side is at 78-80 degrees. His basking spot is 95-105 degrees during the day. I turn on a night heat lamp and leave on one of the CHE’s at night. The temperature stays at about 78-80 degrees and his humidity stays at about 80% at night. I feed him spring mix, dandelion greens, collard greens, herbal hay from tortoise supply, and he always has fresh plants in his enclosure (kalanchoe, climbing aloe, marigolds, petunias, and a boston fern). I also bought an opuntia (spineless cactus) to start adding to his diet. He gets calcium supplements and mazuri. I soak him every night. Ted is really active and loves his new enclosure. He currently weighs 190g and is a year old. He is a slow grower and has some pyramiding, but I’m hoping his increased humidity helps with this. He is a very sweet tortoise and likes to be held and paid attention to. What do you guys think? Any suggestions?

Welcome Ted is a great looking tort! Do you have a top for your enclosure? It is virtually impossible to keep humidity up in the 80%< without a closed enclosure. Your setup looks great. The double light fixture does it have a coil type UVB bulb (CFL)? Those type of bulbs will damage their eyes.
I like all the colorful flowers.

Thank you Ray! Yes, his enclosure does have a plastic cover over it. I used to have a coil UVB, I didn’t know those damage their eyes. I don’t have that anymore though. The long light in the enclosure is his UVB. The double light fixture is a heat bulb on one side for his basking spot and a night heat lamp on the other side. He seems to really like the petunia, he’ll eat those quickly when I put them in his enclosure.

Great! You can keep the substrate real moist. I used 3" of coco coir and 2" of 100% cypress mulch on top. At first I sprayed and sprayed. Then I picked up a idea from a member here to just pour warm water on the substrate and mix it up. I would have to do that about every 3 days. My sully is outside now so I don't use substrate now.
I just saw the pic of your enclosure. Dont know how I missed that. Did the cover come with the enclosure? If I ever get a hatchling again that's the way I would go. That's nice!

Hi Corey, and welcome!!

When I first saw that raised garden bed that Elohi was using I thought it was a great idea! So glad it is working out for you too. Your little guy is a pretty nice-looking little leopard. Thanks for all the pictures.

Hi Corey and welcome to you and Ted.
He looks great and I love his enclosure. Those raised beds are ideal!
I spent ages trying to track down a couple of them for my leopard but they just aren't available in the UK.
You have obviously taken on board all the good advice this forum has to offer and you have a happy and healthy tort as a result.
Well done to you for making the changes and look forward to seeing more of Ted.
