Yeah...total case of mutation. Happens with all species on our planet so I don’t know why this boy Blake is flipping out over what “he” created.... I don’t know him and this is the first I’ve heard of him so not going to comment on his past and current reptile care husbandry. I also do not care to look into him from watching just that one video. Humans breeding any species need to take responsibility and be logical. Separate it, study it, care for it. One should not be treating it as if its a hatchling for sale/future sale.

His first video irritated me, how he was trying to be so dramatic..."this thing is INSANE!"..."just WAIT until you see this AMAZING creature"... yada yada. I just wanted him to shut up and get to the point.

Needless to say, I lost interest. I wish that little baby tortoise well and hope it thrives.

Yeah typical Youtuber.

Not a big fan of this guy. He lives not too far from me and had a fire a couple months ago. Seemed more concerned with the loss of his "property" (i.e. the animals that perished) and replacing it. Than learning from it and making sure he doesnt lose animals to a fire again.
I have to disagree he seemed genuinely hurt behind everything that happened.. how can someone prevent lightning striking there shed and then catching on fire how in gods name is that preventable..?

That tortoise has died now. He keeps the body in a jar to preserve it. Not sure how I feel about that:confused:
Can you post a link to the video you saw that in? I didn’t see it. All I know is Blake didn’t try to make this animal, but he still deserves to experience the beauty.

I only saw the first part of the video. He took up the first 7 minutes with non-stop and repeated rambling about how he's the only one in the entire world who had this, how others wanted it and offered him "insane" amounts of money for it, and flip-flopping about calling it a turtle and then a tortoise, yada yada, before he finally started to get to the point. By then I couldn't listen to another minute of him talk.

It's unfortunate the tortoise passed, but it wasn't developed right on the outside, so perhaps there was unique development on the inside too. It's his tortoise so he can preserve it if he wants to.

I think he is taking credit for creating the sully. I feel like he knows it wrong, I wonder what it would look like all grown up. I don't see any scutes on the poor thing either. The legs seem wrong and it looks like a seaturtle. If he sells it, I will make it my DUTY to get it and care for it right.. Poor thing would look amazing all grown up. But I dont even think that it WILL grow up, if it is being cared for the same way... Atleast he is getting soaks.. Even though the soaks are very minimal.

I’m not a member of Blake’s channel although I do watch it on occasion. He’s really a nice guy. He might be doing some things wrong but is not with an evil heart. You are not going to like what else I have to say, but when you talk about buying it and making it your duty you end up sounding, well it just doesn’t sound good. Plus if he did sell this little guy (which I don’t think he will) I imagine his price would be high. I’m thinking that he is like the majority of people that would want it because it is unique. Go to YouTube and watch some of his videos and get a feel for this guys heart. He doesn’t appear to be an evil person. Mistakes he’s making are just that mistakes. I also don’t think he realizes he needs to hire help he can’t do it with just him and his family. Honestly I think he has a form of brain damage. Not bad just a brain that is youthful.

I understand that his methods and husbandry upsets you as I'm sure it does everyone else. However, getting angry at someone for doing what they have known to do for many many years is a pointless endeavour. I mean that's like me getting upset at every breeder and zoo around. And I completely agree that spamming him and so one will only push him away from any new approach. You can't just go up to a teacher who has been teaching for ten years and get all pissy with them because they aren't teaching the new way or the way that you know is better. Maybe they don't know another way. You have to give people a chance. And getting angry at someone for doing things different is just silly and a waste of time. If you want a child to learn a certain behavior you have to teach it and you also have to show the benefit of the behavior you wnt them to learn. Just stating this from a behavioral stand point.

Amen, his enclosures are clean and he truly loves his animals. I stated before I think mentally he’s not as mature as his age. He lives with his parents and they have let him turn their home into a ranch and I think it’s help them keep an eye out for their son. He has said stuff in his video that sounds like he studies up on the animals. I know their is a tortoise “ranch” near where he lives that he talks to. He just seems like a nice guy.

Evolution happens via mutations ... mistakes are a part of nature, and as long as this wee-beast isn't suffering, I think:
  1. it's got a right to live
  2. there's something to be learned from studying and recording its life
  3. it might grow to contribute to a new line/sub-species/species of tortoise
As regards suggestions an email blitz or spamming the breeder, because he appears not to do things as people in this forum think are best, please consider:
  • until very recently, everyone thought differently about raising tortoises, many still do, many of whom have been raising torts for decades
  • I'm stubborn enough to dig in and act the opposite when faced with an angry mob bugging me while I'm sharing something cool
  • internet mobs tend to be as smart as their least intelligent member
Just my thoughts and opinions, your mileage may vary.

Jamie

Wow I wish I had your command of the English language. That’s what I would’ve said if I was able to formulate my words as well as you.

I’m not a member of Blake’s channel but I agree with you, he genuinely cares about the animals on his property. It seems everyone just wants to tear him down (not everyone I got carried away. Actually there are only a few that talk down about him) anyway they put him down it seemed to build themselves up.
