Hey fellow tortoise owners.

I have had my cherry head for 2 weeks now and I think it’s time I treat his dry shell rot now that we are acquainted with one another. He’s about 7 months old and he already had the shell rot when my friend gave him to me. All of his conditions are good. Proper heat and humidity and he is eating good so I am not too scared for him at the moment.

Do you people think this product would be effective at taking care of it?

My understanding is that shell rot can be fungal or bacterial ... store anti-fungal cream applied daily for a week should take of the fungal variety, multiple washings with appropriately diluted chlorhexidine or betadine should manage bacterial ... I've heard of people using one dose of the bacterial treatment followed by a few days of the fungal treatment to try and cover both bases.

I'm not certain of the best course of action to suggest, not having seen the tortoise, and shell rot.

Thanks for the input Jamie. Here is what Humphrey’s shell rot looks like. Then maybe you will have a more certain idea.

Yup, I think if he was mine, I'd scrub the rot off with the chlorhexidine wipes, then treat the area with root with anti fungal cream every day for a week ... try that and see how he does.

Spot on with the advice. The antifungal cream is merely athletes foot cream. Sometimes on sale at Walmart for $.88 a tube. Should clear up quickly, you caught it early.

Thanks fellas! I purchased the 2% chlorohexodine wipes off of amazon and I will get some anti fungal cream from Walgreens too.

Cheers
