Hi all.
I'm new here thought I would drop by and say hello my name is Ryan and i've just bought a 6 month old horsefield tortoise who had now been with with me 2 days. Love this little guy.

Only concern I have atm is he seems to be hiding quiet often and sleeping is this normal? I've read a few things saying young tortoises tend to hide as they would in the wild to avoid being eaten and they also sleep quiet abit being young?

I've attached a picture of him and his home.

Thanks in advance.

I’m no expert, and someone please correct me if I’m wrong, but I’ve read that those pellets can be quite dehydrating.

Coco coir and orchid bark were recommended to be by many members of the forum. I’ve found the coco coir quite messy so just use it for his hide box and then orchid bark in the rest of the table.

You’ve already gotten great advice on how to make his enclosure better.

Yes, they do tend to be extra shy when they change enclosures. Make sure his enclosure is warm enough and he should come out of his timid funk soon.

I’m no expert but as long as the orchid bark is deep enough for him to dig and burrow into I think it would be fine. I think I’ve read on this forum that many other members just use the bark. If you still want to get the coco coir though amazon sell it and so do pets at
Home.

Thank for the quick reply. It's defiantly deep enough to borrow as he's currently in his hide burrowed sleeping. My other half works at pets at home so she's going to grab some for me when they have their delivery.
Thank you

Welcome to the Forum. Your tortoise is sure cute. Be sure to keep the bark moist.
