And I just adopted my close friends tortoise Donny . Donny is awesome but unfortunately they couldn’t keep him anymore .
Not sure how old he is but he is a big guy and pretty heavy as well lol
It’s been about a few weeks since I had him but I came home from work today and noticed something and I’m not too sure what caused it wondering if you guys could help!!
I’ll attach a picture maybe that will help IMG_1833.jpg

Does Donny live alone? Any dogs?

He does now ! I have an Aussie but I had never noticed him bothering Donny!
My dogs get kenneled while I’m gone so it’s possible it happened while I let them out .

I’m new to this ! And I definitely want to get it right . I’ve watched plants of videos and read a lot over the past couple days to improve his environment. Since he did live in a very small backyard before with a pit bull lol

Any tips on medicine ?

Rinse him or soak him. Keep it clean. It looks like either a bite or some of his skin was taken off. Strange spot for that to happen though

The other possibility is rodents. Does Donny have a secure night house with heat and a door that you can close each night and open each morning? If it is rodents they will keep coming back. If its a dog, the dog will likely escalate its attacks too.

Clean with peroxide or betadine one time, then use some triple antibiotic ointment on it for a week or so. Do your best to keep it clean.

It looks to me as if Donny tried to climb something and injured his leg in the process. You can treat it the same way you would treat such an injury on your own arm or leg. . . clean it well and give it first aid.

Hello everyone . I had shared that Donnie was peeling from his two front legs . And it doesn’t seem to get better . :(
I feel so bad for the little guy I just want to know what is causing it

I’m new to the tortoise world . So I don’t know much . Donnie was handed down to us because they no longer had the space for him. But we had no idea what we were signing up for with such a beautiful/ but fragile creature .

We live in the high desert where it gets in the low 50s at night . He’s outside during the day but inside his shed at night

Would it be bad to wrap the wounded areas ?
Help !

It might be a good idea to clean the wounds real well, and disinfect them, then apply antibiotic cream/ointment and bandage the wounds. Because it's at the bend in the leg, don't wrap your bandage too tight and cut off circulation.

May I please see a current picture of the wounds?

My fiancé noticed it was getting worse today . He soaked him , cleaned it out really good , put ointment on it and covered it up . I have him in the house for now .

I’m so heartbroken and feel like failing him . [emoji24]
I will take any advice . We have fallen in love with Donny and will do what we have to do to make his home a better place for him

I would recommend that keep donny under observation and search whats causing it. You need to clean the wound and keep it clean and don't let donny roam outside. Keep him indoors. Keep him in clean area because if you keep him out mosquitoes will feast on the flesh and lay eggs and then larvae will destroy the area. Keep it clean and apply normal medicine which we use for ourselves. If you are out the whole day I would recommend to set a camera and find a reason what causing it... Goodluck
