I am planning on building a hydraulic lift lid for protection but it will need to be very light weight due to the size.. haven’t decided exactly how I’m going to construct it yet..

Since you're still undecided on the lid, I'll share what we ended up doing. We used PVC pipe and went up & over. This is square so we crossed them. I want to go longer next year, so then we'll probably need to create at least 3-4 separate arches and connect them across the top (& possibly at the bottom too). It was a super easy and cheap build.

The mesh is nylon, not metal, but it is TOUGH. This was easiest with the dome shape. if you went with the arch/tunnel shape, metal mesh would be super easy to drape over and affix.
