Do you have someone who could care for him for a couple days? When you are in Tucson, they could send him overnight delivery? I don't know if FedEx does animals. There is a reptile shipping company.
I'll tag someone who ships a lot of torts.
@Will can you help her?

I'm in Phoenix and have had my RT and Herman hatchling sent here at the end of Sept by overnight shipping. We waited until it was no hotter than 95. There are ice bags that can be put in the box to keep the temp down, but it definitely needs to come overnight. There are probably some others that on here that actually use a shipping company. I was on the receiving end and both torts came before noon and arrived safely.

I have shipped and received by using Delta airlines. Same day shipping. You can also check into shipping him on the flight you are going on in cargo.
However, with the hot temps happening, is there someone you can leave him with in NY and have him shipped at a later date?

Do you know anyone in Tucson who could receive him and care for him til you get there? Maybe someone on this forum in that area has extra space to keep him a couple days. Then he would be with someone experienced.
You said 2-3 months...the temps should be a bit better bt then.

My daughter is a pet nanny, someone that flies show dogs, usually puppies, all over the world. Most airlines will allow a pet that weighs less than ten pounds, including kennel, to fly as your under seat carry on. You just need contact the airline. She has seen people flying with other reptiles.

I live in Tucson. I've purchased lots of tortoises that were shipped overnight to me by both FedEx and UPS. Both deliver by 10:30am. If you wanted to ship your tortoise overnight before you fly over and don't know anybody here, I would gladly receive him for you. I have extra space and supplies and tons of food. I could deliver him to you at the airport upon your arrival since I live about 15 minutes away.
