i would like to eventually move my sulcata outside during summers. I live in a small clearing in the woods. Anyone have any tips or tricks for orienting to the sun or know of any pitfalls to having pens on the fringes of the woods? Growing grass is always a problem.

Thanks for your time,
Erik

Just make sure your enclosure is bullet proof. I live next to National Seashore and there are lots of trees. This also means lots of wild animals; (fox; coyote; raccoons; birds of prey...etc). I have used modified dog crates; Not only are they solid enough to keep tortoise from getting out; but they keep the wild things from getting in. I also have a motion sensor light system to come on if something comes into investigate. If lights come on; my dog will start to bark and I get up to check on what's going on.

You may have to clear a space of vegetation for the tortoise. They need sun part of the day.
