Hibernating in the fridge?

I was browsing a bit on a few tortoise groups on Facebook and I saw a post where they put their tortoises in the fridge for hibernation? Anyone else do this? Not that I have any that hibernates.

Yes. You meed a dedicated fridge for it rather than the one for your foods. It’s more reliable than hoping temperatures stay steady wherever you have a straw filled biox.

Yes. I've done it for years. Had 20 russians, 2 DTs and a couple of lizards all in there. Works great! You can keep the correct temp, a stable cold temp, and they are indoors and protected from wildlife and the cruel whims of mother nature. In my opinion, it is the best way to go.

In Germany tortoise owners often hibernate their torts in a fridge, because winters are too cold for outdoor hibernation. All the advantages that hibernation in a fridge have has @Tom already mentioned.
