I have the opportunity to go to med school in a few years in Scotland. This is still a few years away and definitely not set in stone. I am curious to see if anyone on the forum resides in Scotland and keeps a sulcata?

I'm really just curious on the matter. I don't even know what the laws are related to bringing animals into the country.

I don't know about the sulcata part of your question, but we have quite a few members who live in Scotland

Awesome, I'm curious to see what their set ups look like seeing as the environment over there is much different than my Texas environment.

Do you seriously think you'll be able to bring a Sulcata to Scotland?

I don't blame you for not wanting to give up your pets but do you really think it would be fair to put them thru the hassle and ordeal? Most torts don't do well with big changes

It's a 10 hr plane ride at most . If I were moving from Dallas Tx to El Paso Tx (9 hr car ride) would it also be expected that I do not take them? This is by no means a frivolous decision, nor was it when I decided to keep sulcatas as pets.

I think torts a less stressed on a transport as mammals. In a suitable nice, warm box you can transport them for many hours or whole days.
I see no problems by moving with tortoises.

A 10 hr plane ride is "nothing" for a tort in a suitable, warm transport box. The most important thing is that the tort stays warm all the time during the transport. Heatpacks for reptiles work fine for this use.
I am glad that you take your tort with you.

And once he arrives in that nice warm box, does he have to go through the quarintine process? Best to consider all of these factors:) We're talking about very large torts here. Sounds like an unnecessary nightmare to me!

I think that the tortoises would be just fine. One thing to consider however, is that I do not think any airlines will allow reptiles aboard the airplane. I have first hand experience with this from when I was trying to get my Russian from Michigan to Massachusetts. Apparently airlines will allow an annoying yappy dog to be on a plane, but not a tortoise?

Not only that, but some countries have a long quarantine period for animals coming in.

I don't think any animals should be on airplanes unless they are able to fly in the cabin with people. Too many fatalities from being stuck in the cargo area for extended periods of time with excessive heat and no access to food/water.

According to the Scottish Immigration website, only birds and rodents are required for quarantine. Red eared sliders are banned. All that is required for a tortoise, or any other reptile, is a health certificate. Therefore the only issue is of transport, which, in my opinion, doesn't prove to be an issue. In this post I was more concerned with the setup those in the U.K. have for their sulcatas

Good that you've done your homework:)
You'll have to decide how you will transport them. Best of luck
