Do you like to talk on the phone?

...or are you more of a text'er?

How long do your phone conversations typically last?

I do. And I've no problem texting as well. I'm mid-fifties and the baby of six kids. When we talk on the phone, the average is 60 minutes; but then we all love and care for each other. That said, my closest in the heart and geographically is some 700 mile away…

I absolutely hate talking on the phone. I was a telephone operator for many years, for the phone company, and wore a headset. Now, even though it's years and years later, it hurts my inner ear to have talking happening so close to my head. About 15 minutes is all I can endure. I'd much rather email (don't have a cell phone).

I like talking on the phone. I prefer it to sending messages (emails, sms, and so on), as I hear the person's voice in which case one can tell he/she is happy/sad/ in a good mood/a bad one etc. When receiving messages, one cannot know anything about the sender, unless of course he/she tells you certain things. Know what I mean?

The only person I regularly talk to on the phone these days is my Mum. Conversations typically last around half an hour once a week.

My kids when away from home choose Skype to chat to us. Again probably half an hour.

JoesDad and I also use Skype if he's working overseas (it's cheaper) or the phone signal is poor.

Day in day out for quick chats, comments or just something we've seen that we want to show and tell, the family uses facebook messenger or iMessage.

I can give firsthand knowledge that what Yvonne says is truth. Is she wonderful? Umm, yes! Does she want to be on the phone? Umm, no! And she may say "About 15 minutes is all I can endure" she's making that part up. We had a wonderful 7.25 minute conversation before she was done! Maybe it's my "charming" personality?

I like talking. So much easier than spell checking everything. Not that I do spend much time doing it . I've talked to Ken for some time in the talks we've had .

I'm a texter I couldn't talk on the phone even if I wanted to being deaf

My mom is the only one who tries to talk with me on the phone and it generally goes something like this

Mom: hey I need your help with yard work at my house.

Me: mom just text me I can't hear you

Mom: (gets a little louder) I need your help with yard work

Me: I Still can't hear you

Mom:I need your help with......oh never mind I'll just text you

I talk to my parents every morning, usually my mom. Just to make sure they woke and all is okay for another day.
I like talking on the phone more then texting. However, there are some I wish would text more then call.

I don't like surprise phone calls, text me first and make sure I'm available and I'm usually okay with a chat. When I do the 7+ hour drive home I usually do all of my catching up. For day to day stuff I prefer text.

What Mike says here is so very, very true. We've laughed hard while talking wishing the miles weren't so many between us so we could just sit around a fire out back talking. Usually we both end up at an awkward spot where we know we should hang up, just neither of us wanting to.

A Phobia? Why? if I may ask. What if you do know the person you're talking to?

Gillian and I know each other and we've had zero issues talking on the phone. Our only difficulty has been the time zone issues and coordinating through those. Even while I was in the recovery hospital healing up from my fun auto wreck, she was there with a phone call to help lighten my mood.

I probably tend to be a texted but enjoy a phone call every now and then! I wish we didn't even have cell phones, they're a great tool but they've become indispensable in our society. I feel like I'm regressing in the modern era...that's one reason why I dropped off all social media besides this forum ;)

Stuart, I'm with you on the social media bit. For me, it's TFO and nothing more. I don't do The Facebook or any of the others. And really I'm surprised that you and I don't phone yack yet. We will. I'll pm you. I just have something of an erratic life right now.
