Some time ago I made my tortoise a new enclosre made out of c&c cubes and coroplast though I never posted it. It is a 2x5 cage. There is a ceramic heat emitter on one end and UV lamp on the other.IMG_20161115_121111.jpg IMG_20161115_121118.jpg

I like it. I do think it might be too cold though depending on where you live. Do you have a good source for monitoring temps at tort level?
I think that log hide has been out grown. At least in the pic he doesn't look like he would fit under it

That's nice. Is the blue stuff the coroplast? Is that very expensive?

I have a thermostat to keep track of the temperature but now I'm thinking I should add another ceramic heat emitter towards the center? He can indeed fit under the log but I'm looking into a bigger hide. Thank you.

Thanks. Yes, the blue stuff is the coroplast. It was expensive for me because I went the easy way out and bought the base from Guinea Pig Cage Store. I'm horrifyingly dreadful at math and would never have been able to measure it out and made it myself.

You get better with experience. You should see some of my earlier attempts at cage building.

Home Depot sometimes carries 4'x8' sheets of it for about $20.

But don't expect anybody in the store to know what you are talking about when your looking for it.

It will usually be found with the sheets of glass, plexiglass, and acrylic.

Is it like pvc sheets used in making plastic cages ? Been looking for something like that

No. It's a corrugated plastic.
Think of the plastic signs that I'm sure you've seen around. It's not exactly durable enough to completely build a cage out of. That is why I only use it as a liner. It needs something to support it.

Yeah, I tried to buy it from home depot first and they had no clue what I was talking about. I just gave up and bought the pre-made base (which saved me a couple math related tears)

Haha. They told me they didn't have it. I went back to the plexiglass to buy sheets for the front windows and there it was.

I also checked a few years ago when I built an enclosure for my guinea pigs. I'm betting they had it then too.
