From what I read terra cotta saucers work very well for food and water dishes but how do u clean them? Bleach water would soak into it I would think?

Tooth brush, dish scrubbie from the dollar tree. Just warm water and something with bristles.

If you can find the ones that are glazed, they are much easier to clean. For the ones that aren't glazed, I use a a stainless steel or copper scrub pad. If you need to bleach it, do not use bleach, but instead let it sit dry out in the sun for a few days, then scrub it clean. I only use hot water to clean water and food dishes.

I just rinse and refill. I wipe them out with my fingers if needed.

I'm not a fan of the plain Terra cotta saucers. Mine always smell bad after a while no matter how well I clean them.

I buy the plastic ones that only LOOK like clay. And I'm not all that industrious about sanitizing. I just dump the old water, or scrape off the dried food, rinse and refill!

I thought part of the point of using real terra cotta was that it provides a rough surface - which helps keep the beak trimmed and provides traction.

I just use hot water and wipe around with one of those sponges with a scouring pad on the back of them.
