I have 7 Hermann Tortoises. 2 of the females have recently laid, the eggs are in an incubator. One of the male tortoises has got very aggressive towards the females, tonight he has turned a female on her back and bitten her leg and made it sore, any ideas?

Welcome to the Forum, Tina!

It might be that your habitat isn't big enough. With a fairly large habitat you can add lots of plants and sight barriers, making it easier for the females to get out of the males' sight.

Hello.

I have a male Eastern Box Turtle that I keep separate from the females. He absolutely will not leave them alone and when they mate it is rather aggressive. ⚠️

We've seen several cases where tortoises have been raised together for many years and one day there is continuing conflict and separation is needed.

Hope all goes well for you and your torts :)

Hello, Tina, and a very warm welcome to Tortoise Forum!
I agree with the above, you need to either separate the one from the others or have a very large enclosure with lots of hides and sight barriers, or serious injury may result!!!
Good luck.:)

You have a species that is known to be territorial and aggressive. Hormones associated with breeding can make it worse.

It is great that they got along previously, but that time of luck and good fortune has ended. Time to separate.

How are you housing them? Indoors or out? What size enclosure? Where are you?
