I know what you mean. A month or so ago I was driving to a dog-walk job on a semi-back road and came across a completely squashed an adult female eastern box turtle. It broke my heart, especially since she was relatively fresh, like an hour or two old. My first wild eastern box sighting, and it's a dead one. I just hope she was able to lay whatever possible eggs she may have been carrying before it happened. I ended up stopping and scooping her up and moving her into the tree line anyway, in case another wild animal came along to munch on her. Don't want them to get hit, either.Three more feet in the direction he was heading and this would have had a different ending. Sad thing, later on during our drive we came across a very large UI turtle smashed flat. Sad picture.
