He has a little white dot of paint on his rear, what would be safe to use to remove this? I tried rubbing it and lightly scraping with my fingernail but it didn't come off at all.

~ I think Sam marks them when they arrive, some sort of tracking system. Looks like white out. Best to let it simply wear off, I would not use any type of commercial chemical removal products because it could possibly permanently damage the shell. You might call him and ask what he uses to paint them, he may have a simply solution!

Ok thanks. I swear, sometimes I forget about the simplest things. I hadn't even thought about asking him. The older I get the more space brained I get. Lol.

~ Takes time and proper interaction, slow movements!

That's what I figured. I have been working on that. I try and hand fed him some each day and if that don't go over I just sit there around him, let him get use to me there. My sulcatas have been pretty bold since I got them but my leopard was shy, I just started hand feeding her each day a little bit and now she is fine with me. I will keep working at it.

~ Great food source!

Good. I have a couple huge wild vines that I strung along the top of my fence this year and then last summer I bought 3 different types of grape plants and planted them so I could feed from them this year as well. The leaves on the wild vine get these weird burr looking thinks on the underside of them about mid summer and I ain't sure if it's some disease or something so as soon as I notice them I quit feeding from the wild vine and start feeding from the ones I planted, their leaves don't get the burr things.

leaves on the wild vine

~ One thing i can share that we are unsure why, however sometimes they ignore them when they are fresh and prefer to eat them after they turn brownish and are dried out!

I have noticed that with the sudans. Once I brought them a bunch of wild vine instead of a few limbs (my grandmother wanted it cut out one her hedges so I had the whole plant) and they checked it out but left it alone, a couple days later I noticed it was bare, not a leaf left on it. I'm not real sure what the burr things are that get on the underneath of the leaves, if their harmless or not so I haven't offered them any of the wild vine in a while, just the ones I planted.

Well the weekly updates are somewhat behind. I've been busy getting prepared for the winter months we getting ready to have. Lots to do as always!! I have been doing weekly measurements tho and Jessee is doing very well. He is active and eats like a horse. He is still very shy, completely freezing up if he thinks your looking at him and will run off if he even thinks your going to touch him. I do attempt to hand fed him since this is what I e done in the past to get them use to me but he still ain't going for it, he will run off and leave the food for later when im not around. He has really come to enjoy his soaks, he will relax and soak for just as long as his water is warm. He is gaining weight at a rather steady pace and growing about a 1/4" a month. This past Friday he weighted in at 579 grams/1.28# and measures 51/8".

Greens include, chic weed, dandelions, clovers, dead nettle, thistle of some sort, plantain, wide leave and bullhorn, wild geranium, wild violet, and 2 others that I can't remember the name. He loves his greens!!

Hello! I am so jealous of your beautiful baby! I was hoping anyone reading this thread could point me in the direction of a reputable Aldabra breeder. It seems most everyone is sold out!? This includes Aldabraman. I have looked at some of the young ones at Florida Iguana, but all seem to be imports with split scutes. I have worked all summer to set up a closed chamber and an outdoor enclosure. Im just waiting to put a new baby Aldab in it! Please help if you know of anyone!

Thank you, I'm very happy with my little guy myself. Just like you I spent along time preparing and then had issues (medical) that postponed me from getting mine. It's frustrating to say the least. I will PM ya.

I hope you continue to update now & then. My " Cupcake" was about the size of yours when I got her. Now she's 21 months old and 7 lbs. she is still shy compared to a sulcata. But stands for head & neck rubs.

Early on I made it too easy to eat - setting her right in front of a pile of food. She would eat and then go sleep / hide. It became a routine and I realized she was not walking or exploring much. To break this lack of exersize and movement I put her in the outside enclosure ( fully planted ) and stopped feeding her. It took 3 days before she would freely graze again.

My fault , I spoiled her. :)

It's hard for me to not feed her much. But like with children , if you make it too easy for them, they don't get strong and resilient. I still spoil her several times a week with spring mix , a bit of mazuri & hibicus flowers.

But she has to graze the rest of the time.

Good fortune with your baby !
