I've tried to call the nurse twice today and both times she is on the phone and says she would call me back. I wish he was at my hospital but we don't have a neuro floor like they do in Salem.
Hi Morgan,

Hope your Dad is better. Would you please be kind enough to update us? Please send him my very best wishes and hope to hear he's back at the forum soon, very soon. I miss our COWBOY.

So this is what I know and think I understand so far...
They are leaning against surgery because the fracture looks stable. I expressed my concern of him having another seizure and dislodging it. It turns out that when he had his first blood draw the drug he takes for his seizures was 40 points under the therapeutic level. So they believe if they can keep this in the therapeutic level that he will not have a seizure. His last blood draw showed he was right in the middle of the therapeutic level now. When he has a more permeant room I would be happy to PM his number but I don't know how much longer her will be in his room that he is in now. Just know if you call him that you need to remember a few things

A) he can walk, talk, and feed himself.
B) anytime we talk I remind him how much he is loved.
C) this is going to take lots of time.
D) he may forget you talked with him and it's ok if he does.
E) he needs support, we are trying to use this as a way to help him kick lots of bad habits and any help supporting that would be amazing!

I know you all know him as Cowboy Ken that drinks and smokes but in reality these are habits he needs to kick for his own health. Drinking, as much as he does, with the meds he is on is a recipe for seizures. I'm sorry if this is too much for some members but I'm very bad about beating around the bush.

I call him 3x a day at meal time to remind him to eat. He got cleaned up today and walked 3 times but doesn't remember any of it, but yet knew how old I was.... This is very hard to explain what he will remember and forget. He also told me they were asking him things that I know aren't true. His mind is trying to make a castle with pudding, he almost gets it then it falls apart.

His basic, ever changing, big picture is 3 months in the hard collar if no surgery (yes they still aren't 100%). He will be moved to a rehab unit in the hospital soon, or so we think. This will be for a few weeks I would think but mainly up to him and his healing. My Aunt and Uncle have come up from CA to help take care of him where ever he is, rehab or if he can go home.

Please feel free to share his Go Fund Me site to others, he will need all the help he can get.

Thank you again for all the love and support. I will keep you updated as I know more

I 100 % agree with you Morgan. This is a great opportunity for Ken to kick his bad habits. When my wife and I met him in May this year, we notice he roll and smoke tobacco, I hope the hospital would not allow him to do that. May this become a positive him for Ken.

Continue to pray for him and you. You are a very sweet girl Morgan! ! ! !

Thank you for your each and every update.

I must have missed that somewhere...even for something like this? It will all be applied to his medical funds and probably be what pays for his rehab, which is very much so needed :-/

As David mentioned you can ask Josh to allow it, though personally I don't think he will because it would set a precedent. I don't have the link handy but the applicable section of the guidelines is below. When the forum changed software, things got kinda jumbled and hard to find.

Contests, fund raising, charities or other personal uses
You cannot use Tortoise Forum to stage a contest or to request donations for any charity or for any "personal" use that you may think of. This includes posting links to sites requesting charitable donations. This includes asking people to donate money or purchase items you are selling here or elsewhere to fund needs of any kind for family, friends, neighbors, pets, other Tortoise Forum members or anyone. You cannot use Tortoise Forum to stage a contest on your own for any purpose without first getting express approval from the Tortoise Forum Administrator/Owner. You cannot use Tortoise Forum to have everyone vote for you in a contest in which if you win you would receive anything of value -- money, trips, and any other consideration. In short, you may not use Tortoise Forum for your own personal use of any kind without first asking for permission.

Also to anyone thinking about sharing the link via PM: My opinion is that the rules apply to PMs as well. However, we can not monitor PMs so the only way we would be made aware of an infraction would be if it was reported. ;) Know who you're sending PMs to. In addition to the rule above, sending unsolicited PMs asking for donations or containing links to such is spam.
