For now we will call it a her until told otherwise and we have yet to name it, but this is my new little friend. A gift from my sister. She is 1.5 years old and today weighed in at 48grams. This is her her setup, please let me know if I need to change anything since I am new to turtles. uploadfromtaptalk1434907682065.jpguploadfromtaptalk1434907692810.jpguploadfromtaptalk1434907705488.jpguploadfromtaptalk1434907723887.jpg
It's a 40 gal tank, there are hides in every corner. I put a filter waterfall in the "pond" so she always has fresh flowing water and I have a uvb light over the tank but I have been using the natural filter sunlight instead since it's been so hot lately. Any suggestions on changes? I am worried it's too wet an environment not sure...

Aw...isn't she pretty? Your habitat is very eye pleasing and it looks like the turtle will be very comfy in there. In case you don't know, I'll remind you that screen filters out quite a bit of the beneficial UVB rays, so you will need to cut a hole for the light to shine through.

Beautiful turtle! Glad to see you are doing your research to properly care for it!

Beautiful turtle and beautiful enclosure. The waterfall is a fantastic addition to the enclosure.

Ok, my little friend needs a name. I'm taking suggestions, none of my family an agree.
My son calls her "taco".
My daughter calls her "bee"
My hubby calls her "Yurtle the turtle"
And I call her "squriturtle"
Any other suggestions?

For now I have settled on the name squriturtle although my son keeps calling her taco. :) I weighed her yesterday and she's up to 83grams which is almost double the weight in 1 month. Still working on getting a variety in her diet but she loves her proteins... so far the only fruits I can get her to eat are strawberries and peaches. She will also eat escrole and some small amount of greens but really only if I chop them so small that she gets a month full when she's going after the wiggly proteins. But all in all she seems pretty healthy. Love my little squriturtle.

What type of fountain do you have? Would you mind posting photos or details?

I like Taco! (I like food names for pets. I've had foster kittens named Waffle, Tofu, Bok Choi, etc...)

It's actually for aquatic turtles but I only have it submerged a few inches but I don't remember the brand. You can kind of see it in this picture. She loves the waterfall and spends alot of time on the rock next to it enjoying the splashing.

Huh. Does it recirculate somehow? My partner is obsessed with the idea of a filleted pool in our tortoise table, but we haven't come up with a viable solution.
