No they didn't, but I would find there poop along the inside of her pen where they would eat the muscadine grapes. One night I wen out there and spooked in bye her dog house. I went an bought poison. Two weeks later dead rats every where. One morning I woke up and saw lady a eating a decomposing young rat i freaked. ... after that I bought a live trap and starter catching them. I even removed about three rat snakes from a church members garage and released them under my deck..

I've been concerned about possum, rats, raccoons, and snakes too. Have empty wooded lots all around my property and there are plenty of critters. My outside pens have tops covered in chicken wire now, but when my two charges get big this will not be possible, they will need the whole back yard. It is fenced now with a 4' chain link. I'll wall it like Aldabraman's when needed.

My dog keeps the wildlife at bay (as well as snooping people!), sleeps outside at night on my lanai with a doggy door to the yard. He's brought me several small possums, a squirrle, and one poor black snake as "proof" of doing his job :) Quite dillegent..FullSizeRender.jpg View attachment 130998

At this point I do not trust the dog with the torts - they are 5 and 7lbs. But he is fine with them when I am supervising. Actually pays no attention to them walking my Lanai (but he will eat their Mazuri if they leave any hahah) It may be that they will be able to share the yard with a dog one day when large (I have an Aldabra and a sulcata) - if dog is well trained. I know this is controversial, but I have seen it done and I do train dogs also. A well trained dog can be great security.

As far as this or that being illegal here or there- Any city, county, or state can basically make up whatever rules they want. What's illegal in his town might be the normal thing in the next town over. If you are really concerned about predictors... put up the fence and worry about a "take it down " letter from code enforcement later.
Another option would be something like this bird "zap track" http://www.birdbarrier.com/category/010/bird-shock-flex-track/ you could run it along the top of the fence and no one would notice (unless they touch it).
Just an idea.
