    Help ?

Welcome to the forums. If you post a picture, someone may be able to help you out on figuring out if your tort is a red foot or cherry head. As for bugs/protein, I would go with what Redstrike suggested. And I don't think cat meat is a good idea, although I have seen sites mention cat...

    hi! a re-introduction

I haven't had my own red foot very long, but I would suggest a little more variety. Hibiscus leaves, collard greens, spring mix, dandelion greens, etc. My red foot is especially fond of squash/zuke flowers and my cherry head just realized they are tasty. I haven't tried other safe flowers...

    What's on their plate?

I wanted to show what my tortoise eat. Dexter is a Red Foot and Rammus is a Cherry Head. This is an example of some of the foods they eat. On the plate there is: hibiscus leaves, squash flower, pot marigold leaves, young sprout mesclun mix, and young sprout collard greens. I say 'young...

    Wheat Grass...Safe and acceptable?

I grew my own matt of wheat grass for the indoor enclosure. The outdoor enclosure has some wheat grass growing as well. Dexter at first would nip at the grasses but never enough to be noticed as eating in any considerable amount. So it is just decoration for my torts.

Safety of Wild Mushroom in Outdoor Enclosure

Thanks guys for the info. I found 2 more mushrooms pushing upward out of the cypress mulch side. None are growing on the top soil side. And the cypress mulch is the same I have inside the indoor enclosure and there are no mushrooms growing there. Hm... I guess I will just keep ripping...

Safety of Wild Mushroom in Outdoor Enclosure

I just noticed today that there were what looked like 2 different kinds of mushroom growing in my red foots outdoor patio enclosure. My young torts haven't been outside for a few days (not as warm as I would like plus cool wind), so I don't know how long they have been there before I removed...

    My new redfoot, Bernie

I got my red foot (who was 3 months old) just a month ago. He was rather shy, as to be expected. Even now he is still shy, but he is getting better. He isn't as quick to hide. He will continue to eat. He is getting less jumpy about a camera in his face. He knows when I tap the food tile...

    Calcium supplement and fresh greens?

I don't have a Russian so I don't know which plants are best for them. Are they do better on grasses or greens? My red foot does well on greens, flowers, fruits, etc. Not so much grasses. So the seeds packets I bought were collard greens, musclun mix, curly endive/chicory, and viola. You...

    Mushrooms for tortoises?

My redfoots like mushrooms. Sliced or diced. I give baby belle... the gray kinds not the white ones since I read about other tortoises having that preference.

    First day outside!

They looked like they enjoyed themselves. I like the mud pool.

    Tortoise Outdoor Patio Enclosure

Yup, I need hides too. I tried to give Dexter some when it was just him, but he never used them. He opted to make a small dip along the wall and call it bed. I brought them inside now since it is getting a little windy and the temperature is cooling down. They were looking for a place to...

    Tortoise Outdoor Patio Enclosure

My patio is completely screen in with a tree outside for shade. The location gets nice AM light and spotty afternoon sun. Before: After: The enclosure is 7' x 3' with a little less than 10" wall. I used top soil and cypress mulch for ground cover. I did just plant some seeds...
