Hi Guys!
Just wondering if anybody's RT's are starting to become more active? Mine is an indoor tort and since I've only had him for a year, I haven't hibernated him, and I'm not sure that I will to be honest.
I keep a webcam on my tort all day while I'm at work and I've been noticing...
Sounds normal to me. Just let the little one stay buried for a while, he/she will come out when it's hungry and then start exploring more. RT's are pretty shy at first, sounds like the environment you have is about perfect.
After a few weeks, you will see a difference :) Just keep putting in...
I bought (rescued) Boris from Petsmart back in mid-March and since then we've become very good friends and he's finally trusting me 100% Thanks to Joe's diet page and his incredible TNT powder, Boris has perfect looking skin, a healthy shell and lots of personality.
Here's a few recent pics...
My thoughts, for what they are worth.
Pros:
- Great looking tort! You have a beautiful female there and the up-front cost was great
What to work on..:
- Her beak and claws need to be worked on. Take her outside and let her walk around on some concrete (with supervision) and add a piece...
Awwwe, that is sure a cute little tort you have there !!
Everybody has their own ideas on supplements, but I keep it pretty basic. The only power is use is Carolina Pet Supply's Tortoise TNT Powder (which has some calcium in it) and have a cuddle bone available for those occasional calcium...
For the beak, put his food on a medium sized flat stone (like a river stone) and while he eats, it will also help to keep the beak trimmed naturally. It's also good for maintaining the claws too :D

For what it's worth, I believe the Zoo Med Tortoise House is adequate for a single Russian, assuming you take him/her outside for exercise frequently.
Obviously putting two together is a better solution, but some folks (like me) cant afford another. I do take him out a lot, so he's fine :)
Thanks everyone for the great comments! Boris is a good little tort and loves a challenge :) He's almost self-maintaining when he's outside in that he will go over a log, walk around, and go right back over it again, lol
I'm still somewhat a new tort owner (just over two months now) and I think...
My little guy and I have developed a little game while he's outside getting his exercise :) It's very easy to see why Russians are considered escape artists...he cal practically climb straight up the side of a smooth fence.
What I do is set up some obstacles for him to either get around or...
Are you guys sure that's not old shell-rot that is healing up?? Not that it matters since it's not soft and healing on it's own ;) Can you post of pic of the underside shell?

If you don't have enough room outside, then you're tank will have to do and I think if you have the proper temps and enough UV for the little guy, your tank will be just fine (i think the size will work for just the one tort, but I'm no expert either) I do agree that your water bowl should be...
Sounds like you're already in a good place with temps and UV.
If you change anything out, I would highly recommend you purchase the PowerSun 100W for your tort. This is an all-in-one bulb and produces the right around of heat and UV. Right now, Amazon has a great proce on them -...
Hi Niki! Along with what everybody else has said, from what I have read, the general rule of thumb is to feed a RT at least a cup of food daily. If they're able to graze on natural food, then you're even more set :) As others have said, those high temps are just too too much for the little guys...
