What is the usually size of a mature adult Russian?

My female is nearly 9”. Unfortunately I have no idea what her age is as she was surrendered and I then adopted her. She’s unusually large, so I’ve been told by everyone. Though I’d say females are probably mature at 6”.

Great tip for helping torts poop

I for sure have noticed a difference in using warmer water. It makes them more comfortable and seems to help their bowels move a bit.

    Tortoise in my garden!

Testudl are native to Greece, so I’d assume he’s a wild tort. Post pics so we know for sure, because pet torts do escape. If he’s a Herman’s, wild in Greece, leave him be :)

As a new member/new tortie mom..

Wow. Seventy hours and lots of animals? I wish I had the darn energy for that! I’ve for sure worked 70 hr weeks, but that was before I had my 3 torts. You rock!

A new baby Tortoise, some help?

Also I’d say they are too small to sex. They need to be around 4” and 4-5 years old, I believe ( someone correct me if I’m wrong)

A new baby Tortoise, some help?

Definitely a testudo, but I don’t keep Mediterraneans (besides Russians which are grouped into meds but live way further East/north). If the eye doesn’t get better, it’ll need a vet and antibiotics. Torts are hardy, but I’d make an appointment if it doesn’t get better with soaks in a day or two...

Possible age range for my male?

So I got my male Russian 2 months ago from Petsmart. I know, it’s Petsmart, but he caught my eye and was so spunky that I just had to pick him up. i have two females, everyone is in separate enclosures. Milton, the male I’m speaking of, is super tiny. Not hatchling tiny, but probably “just...

Milton, the vet, an enema, and getting him to produce a stool sample

I guess with his age nobody can be sure... I assumed he was a teen/early adult because of his size but you are 100% right, I’m just super used to having very large females! How big would a 5-10 year old male be btw? I take him outside quite a lot for exercise. I’ve definitely noticed that they...

Milton, the vet, an enema, and getting him to produce a stool sample

Also update: Milton has gained grams, I won’t know for sure til we are at the vet again. I thought my scale was precise (it’s a great scale used for soap making) but I can’t be sure. He was 271 at the vet. Now he is 300 (according to my scal) I am feeding 2-3 small portions a day as it seems...

Milton, the vet, an enema, and getting him to produce a stool sample

The fish thing isn’t literally a tank size thing, but I did mean fish are severely stunted from the size (which 99% of the time leads to poor water quality for many reasons including “the fish produces too much waste for the water volume and so is swimming in its own waste.) i definitely plan...

Milton, the vet, an enema, and getting him to produce a stool sample

I’m curious how small space stunts a tort. I used to be advanced in the fishkeeping hobby. I know water quality stunts a fish as they live and breathe in their own waste. I’m NOT saying you’re wrong, I’m curious. I have a female Russian who’s am absolute planet. 8” and almost 4 lbs. she was kept...

Milton, the vet, an enema, and getting him to produce a stool sample

Hi there. I have had two female Russians for a long time. I am no beginner. I’d say I’m pretty intermediate pro advanced in terms of keeping them and I definitely know the basics. both my girls were rescues from bad environments. Two weeks ago today I got Milton, a juvenile male, from a pet...

I have three Russians. Pretty sure at least 2 sub species. Can you identify?

You know that’s a good point. She doesn’t look old at all, her shell is not weathered and is near perfect. I do not have the slightest clue how old she is. I rescued her from a place called Critters in South Elgin, IL. Someone relinquished her, and the store had her vetted and she had a...
