so I’ve got six bricks of coco coir and I’m changing it this afternoon! Just waiting for a tub to turn up to mix it in. I’ll change it when Timothy is having his bath... genuinely quite excited.
I've had an idea of how I can get the substrate much deeper for Timothy, I've just ordered a heavy duty pond liner that I can then staple gun into the correct size. This means that even in the reptarium I should be able to achieve a 10cm depth. I'll add a front wooden panel to cover the liner...
I think it’s so hard because he’s skinny. Very light for his shell length. But, we are getting there and he’s eaten a decent amount of greens today. He’s still not perfect, but the good thing is he’s eaten well! And his activity level has been off the charts! Which makes me happy. He loves the...
Finally, it’s warm here at the moment..... so some exercise round the garden and his appetite has improved enormously. The picture above is him eating a dandelion- yay!

I’m not saying your wrong for your Russian, but it’s helped me personally get Timothy to settle in and eat - I did some research. This is all Horsfield/Russian related.
this was advice found on www.horsfieldtortoise.co.uk (every other day) and no more than a six in seven...
thank you! There’s so much conflicting information it’s been a nightmare and the pet shop whilst the guy was very knowledgeable - wasn’t tortoise savvy. - everyday is a school day!
I’ve seen so many posts advising with Russian or Horsfield tortoises - five days a week, this has been on lots of other forums and it seems to be working for Timothy and Me. It’s encouraged him to actually eat weeds and dark leafy greens and he’s not just turning his nose up. I think it depends...
I just wanted to take a moment to thank all of the amazing, inspirational tort owners and the helpful information I've received on this site. (Long post - strap in)
I spent a long time considering what animal to get as a pet. I live in rented accommodation and a cat or dog would not be...
